Color Club - Gingerbread

Yesterday afternoon I planned out a whole new sheet of temporary tattoo paper, ready to print out and apply some last night.  But of course I ran out of printer ink just as I was printing the test page!  I was so psyched to wear one of the new designs and then I wasn't able to. So I had to go to my untried drawer and find something pretty to wear.

The one colour that was guaranteed to pep me back up is gold, and gold glitter is even better.  This is Color Club Gingerbread from their Holiday Splendor collection last year.  It is a light gold polish with lots holographic sparkles.  I layered two coats of Gingerbread over Periperia Crystal Gold.

I wish I knew why it was so hard to photograph amazingly blingy glitters like this.

As you can see, it's not just gold glitter in this, there is a huge array of different coppery and bronze glitters too.  I can also seen light green in this shot, but that might be the gold holo??

I love this glitter so much, mainly because it's a cool toned light platinum gold glitter and not warm orange looking gold. This is only the second polish out of the Holiday Splendor collection I've tried and they are both amazing.  The bottles of the others looks like they will be awesome too.  I'm so glad I grabbed this collection!

Off to replace my printer cartridge now...

Colour Club Holiday Splendor

When I first got the Color Club Beyond the Mistletoe collection, this is the first one I put on.  Holiday Splendor.  It's the only one in the collection that has a tinted base together with the holographic glitter.

This is such a beautiful polish.  Seriously.  It is beautiful.  You are guaranteed to get comments on your nails when you wear this polish.

This was two coats, over Nail Tek II foundation, then four layers of top coat. Color Club top coat that came with the set, Ulta3 non-chip, Gelous and Seche Vite.  Once it had totally dried, it was still a bit textured and not 100% smooth.  I think some of the other swatches I've seen of this must be taken when the top coat is still wet, to get that amazing glossy finish.  Just be warned, these are gritty. Just like the Nubar Sparkles.

It's hard to capture the holographic goodness of the glitter in photos. In the shade you don't see the multi-coloured sparkle, but then in the sun my camera spazzes out and doesn't show any sparkle either.

Here it is in the sun.

Holiday Splendor is very similar to China Glaze Atlantis.  The only real difference is that the jelly base in Atlantis is slightly darker.

The other thing I only noticed today is that Blogger has updated the comments section and it now allows individual replies to each comment.  Have I been under a rock and not noticed this for weeks, or is it just really new?  Either way, YAY, I've always wanted to reply to individual comments and had considered going to another comment plugin.  So expect to receive replies for as long as I can keep up with them.

My Sugar Plum Fairy turns one

My little baby girl turned one today.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY GAGA! I know it sounds cliched, but I really can't believe a year has gone by so quickly.  Here's my little one, together with her pink monkey birthday cake I made.

For her birthday today I wore one of my new polishes I got off ebay, from the Color Club Beyond the Mistletoe collection.  I can't tell you how much I love this collection!

This is Sugar Plum Fairy, and it just seemed to match the occasion.  This is just one coat of Sugar Plum Fairy over violet coloured franken I made last year out of TKB pigment called Ultramarine Violet.

The glitter in this polish is predominately holographic, but with enough lavender/violet glitter colour the overall appearance of the polish.  The base is totally clear.  You could easily get opacity wearing three coats.

Here is the standard blurry shot as it shows the holo glitter sparkles so nicely.

And here it is in the shade where you can't really see the glitter sparkling.

The glitter in this collection are very thirsty.  I'm wore four coats of top coat. Color Club top coat that came with the set, gelous, Ulta3 Non-chip and Seche Vite.  Even with all that top coat there are still sections with that much top coat on!

I'm so in love with these polishes!  If you like glitter polishes, then it really is a no brainer that you HAVE to get this collection.

Hope your having a great weekend.  Mine should be a little quieter now that the Birthday and party are over with.

Covered in Diamonds

Some time last week, I spotted this polish over at Polish This. I instantly fell in love with it and promptly went off and purchased it.

This is Color Club's Covered in Diamonds.  This is an old school flakey to me, exactly like my old Ulta 3 Wild and Crazy.  What I mean by old school is that these flakey bits are irregular and rough, and much larger pieces than current flakes seen in the Nfu Oh or Inglot flakies.

This is one coat of Ulta 3 Midnight with two coats of Covered in Diamonds, then two coats of top coat. Photo taken indoors.  I was really worried it was going to be seriously rough, but what I did after the first coat of top coat, was press down on the nail gently, pressing all the rough bits of the flakey into the soft polish.  Then the second coat of top coat really smoothed it out, leaving it almost smooth.

Here it is in the sun.

I did find this polish really gluggy, in fact I added about 10 drops of thinner to this brand new bottle, otherwise I would never have been able to get it on my nail.

There are so many colours in this flakey polish, blue, green, orange, yellow.  I personally think it looks best over a dark colour, just like all the other flakies.  I will have to try with different coloured bases.
